Let’s be honest, new furniture can be a real investment.
You want to make sure that you LOVE what you buy.
Although the prices from some online vendors can be tempting, they tend to cheat you on some other crucial factors in ensuring you and your furniture are a match.
First you will want to consider the COMFORT of your new purchase.
A sofa or chair needs you to sit in it.
Take your time, put your feet up. Heck! Even lay right down on the sofa.
Do the cushions feel right?
Is the seating too deep?
Arms too high?
Is the fabric a bit too abrasive for your taste?
Is the mattress too firm?
None of these can be determined accurately with online shopping.
You will also need to consider COLOUR.
Colour is another factor best assessed in person.
Bring swatches from home, or borrow fabric/leather samples from our Design Center to make sure you choose the perfect option.
You need to make sure that it works with your wall colours, flooring, and any existing furniture and accessories.
There’s nothing worse than getting excited about your new furniture piece only to find out after it is delivered that it doesn’t match your home.
I would be amiss if I did not mention SIZE, as this is also important and can be misleading from your computer screen.
Not only does the size need to be right for you, but also for your room (and the ways into your room)!
Also vital to think about when getting ready to choose furniture you will love for a long time is the STYLE/AESTHETIC of the piece.
Will it work with existing furniture?
Does it compliment your vision for your space?
Is it a style you are drawn to?
Just like with fashion, if you buy the best quality you can afford, and not follow extreme trends, you can wear/use the piece for many seasons to come.

See below how you can style the same sofa in 3 different ways, just by adding new accessories!
In this photo, we have styled the sofa with an eclectic aesthetic.
We wanted to create something fun that also infused some colour.
We started with the bright red, fuzzy toss cushions and throw, and then added this fun owl toss cushion.
To help tie all the cushions in together, we used the vase on the ledge behind the sofa.
This vase has the red tones, as well as the turquoises and yellows seen in the owl cushion.
We didn’t want to overwhelm the space with colour though, so we decided to add some silver décor, whose lines tie into the vase and owl toss cushion.
For this next photo, we wanted to create a rustic/industrial feel.
There were a few main things we looked for when searching for accessories: metals, woods, horses, and monochromatic colour tones.
By finding décor and accessories that had at least two of these features, we managed to create a cohesive and welcoming display.
For our last set up, we decided to go with more of a glam/girly aesthetic.
We knew we wanted to create a more glam display for this one, but our creativity really took off when we saw the bulldog art.
The bowtie on this adorable piece of art then reminded us of the Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams 2020 Colour of the Year blog we did.
We loved these two colours together, so we decided to use them again. We achieved the glam/girly look with the colours, materials, and décor chosen.
