It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Warm sunshine, chilly evenings, beautiful leaves and NO BUGS!
We are getting back to our usual routines in the home, and starting to think ahead to the months when we spend more time indoors (like some of us wish we could hibernate until spring).
Many people are wondering how they can change up the look of their space for fall, without having to do an entire makeover. I can help!
Throws
These add warmth and texture to a space, and are so practical for throwing
over your feet while watching TV, or around your shoulders as you curl up with
a book. Use them to add pops of colour to your room, or go for neutrals with a
soft feel. You can use blankets and throws as table cloths too!
Toss Cushions
This is the perfect season to put these literally ALL OVER your house.
Plaids are huge, as are textures. Try some traditional fall colours such
as rust, cinnamon, mustard, red, forest or moss green. Remember, fall
doesn’t have to be orange (although orange is awesome).
You can switch out your usual cushions, for a nice change. Try to
be creative with where you use your cushions too! You can use them
on a dining room bench, porch chairs, your bed, and beside
the fireplace hearth (just watch the sparks!).
Rugs and Runners
Our barefoot days are almost behind us.
Warm up your floors with area rugs and runners. With the right colours
and patterns you can really make the space feel cozy.
Cocoon-like bedroom spaces
The nights are getting longer, and the temperatures are dipping.
Try some new bedding to make your sleeping space feel more decadent.
Flannel is still a great go-to.
Decorative Trays
Place some dried flowers, gourds, and sprigs
of colourful leaves on a small tray. You can
move it from place to place, and out of
the way, in your home.
Dark Coloured Candles
They add some drama and glamour to your
space. Try adding gold candleholders
to enhance the effect.
Baskets
These are an autumn staple. They are a quick and easy way
to bring the season into your home. Fill them with little
pumpkins, apples, blankets or firewood!
Natural Elements
Even the most posh and modern homes can embrace the season by adding
natural elements. A bamboo vase with some seasonal flowers? A driftwood
sculpture? There are so many different options!
Colours
You don’t need to change your whole colour scheme for the few months of fall,
you just need to get a little crafty. Paint tiny pumpkins to match your d?cor, or
mix in accents that harmonize with your current palette. Many traditional fall
items can be very neutral in colour. Think wheat, birch bark, and acorns!
You don’t have to go overboard (unless you want to! It IS the best time of the year!). You can just add little touches here
and there. Have fun with it! Feel free to come by Bennett’s and we can look for little hints of autumn that can help bring
into YOUR home.
Until next time,
