Sometimes, it can be difficult to picture how that sofa you love the comfort of can fit your style preferences and the style of the other pieces in your home. While some pieces are not as versatile as others, many, if not most, pieces can completely change look and feel based on what you pair it with!
To show how this can be done, we’ve taken one sofa and given it three different looks.
Look One: Classic in Bloom
For this first look, we wanted to lean into the classic style of the sofa, sticking with a more traditional look. That is why we chose the next pieces, the wall art and the area rug. With the classic shapes and floral patterns, all of these pieces tie in perfectly to this feel.
Both the wall art and the area rug feature the same pops of colour, which are amber and teal. We tied these colours in throughout the look with the toss cushions and vases that we chose.
You will also see the florals from the wall art reflected in the faux plants and the one set of toss cushions. The florals chosen are also ones that lean toward a more classic style.
For the tables we chose, we chose ones with turned legs which both reflect a classic style and mirror the arms of the sofa. We've also tied in these curved lines with the table lamps we chose.
Look Two: New York Loft
This look was inspired by photos of New York lofts we saw photos of when looking for inspiration for our November 2024 flyer cover. We loved how this classic sofa took on a more masculine and industrial look and wanted to bring that to life here.
To achieve this masculine and industrial feel, we stuck with a limited and neutral colour palette, choosing blacks, browns, bronzes and beiges for all the pieces chosen. While the colour palette is limited, it is still interesting due to the textures and variations of the items we chose.
One of the first pieces we chose to go with this look was the nesting coffee tables. We loved the iron basket weave of the base and the natural wood texture. You can see iron and wood mirrored in many of the other accessories chosen.
For the accessories chosen, not only do they work well with the coffee tables and align with the industrial feeling of this look, but they are also fun and intriguing, which add more interest to the limited colour palette. See the binoculars, the hand giving the peace sign or the two elephants.
Look Three: Rustic Comfort
The first item chosen to go with this last look was the wall art. It ties in with the sofa with the brown tones, but it also gives a more rustic feel, which we decided to lean into.
To go along with the rustic style, next we chose the tables. The wirebrush finish and varying colour tones on these tables are perfect for this look, and also help tie in with the brown of the sofa. We decided to keep the rougher, rustic finishes in many of the accessories we chose as well.
We also added in other natural elements with the faux plants, and the toss cushions and throw we chose. The texture of the sheepskin throw is mirrored in the texture of the kidney cushion. There is also another set of toss cushions with a plant motif.
To help tie in the green of the wall art, we added green in with some accessories, including the vases and the plant motif toss cushions. This helped create a more cohesive look.
Why All These Work
Are you wondering how all these different styles can work with this one sofa? There are a few ways we accomplished this:
Tied in the colours used throughout a variety of pieces in the look
Chose colours, textures and motifs that worked well with the sofa and the overall style we wanted to achieve
Took inspiration for the look from pieces we loved or inspiration photos
Didn't let the inherent classic style of this sofa limit what we could do with it
Which look is your favourite?
