Statement of Commitment to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
At Bennett's Furniture and Mattresses, we are committed to creating a workplace where every employee feels dignified, valued, and empowered to perform their best work. We go beyond standard code requirements, removing physical barriers to create fully accessible, barrier-free spaces for both our employees and customers. For Bennetts, a multi-faceted approach means carefully evaluating factors that influence each person’s experience, including sound, scent, physical barriers, and the subtle effects of building materials on health. Here are just a few areas we consistently review and enhance:
Lighting: We carefully select the lumens and color of lights throughout our showroom and offices, aiming to mimic natural light while conserving energy and supporting wellness, with special consideration for those with light sensitivities and migraines.
Air Quality: We have invested in state-of-the-art HVAC systems, conduct regular air quality testing, maintain a scent-free policy, and responsibly source products to ensure that both domestic and overseas suppliers use safe chemicals in manufacturing furniture and mattresses.
Physical Accessibility: We conduct regular showroom audits to identify and address any physical barriers or safety concerns.
Sound Sensitivity: We manage noise levels from music and other sources to create a welcoming atmosphere, particularly for those sensitive to auditory stimulation.
Accessible Signage and Supportive Devices: We prioritize the accessibility of signage, service desks, and offer supportive devices like wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive aids.
